As we close out 2022, I figured I'd end it by recapping it similarly to last year with my top 10 events. However, this year, instead of giving reflections on world events, I thought I'd share personal ones. Here are my personal top 10 for 2022.
1) A Trip to Miami
Early in the year, I made a trip to Miami to work with Guiding Life Financial Group to a workshop put on by Be Gr8. I had a great time and was able to expand my vision for the remainder of 2022.

2) Attended Multiple Education Conferences
This year, I attended 4 education conferences in 3 different cities (Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio). Three of the conferences were for statewide organizations and one was for a national organization. I learned a lot, met lots of individuals doing great things in the education space, and even spoke out on a couple of issues going on in the education space.

3) Help Put On the Mid-Year Conference for the National Bar Association
This year, the mid-year conference for the National Bar Association (NBA) convened in Houston, and upon request of the president of the NBA, I helped plan the conference. It was a great time, with some of the top African-American attorneys in the nation.

4) Finished My Term as Board President for HCDE
Last year, I learned that I was the first African-American board president of the Harris County Department of Education in the organization's 132-year history. This year, I wrapped up my presidency and handed the gavel over to our current board president, Richard Cantu.

5) My Wife and I Celebrated Our 15th Anniversary and Stepped Out on the Town a Few Times
This year, the Mrs. and I hit the 15-year mark since our nuptial and after all these years, she's still willing to be seen with me in public for some reason.

6) Took the Kids on a 5,000+ Mile Road Trip Highlighting Black History
The kids and I took a 5,000+ mile road trip, where we visited 18 states over the course of 16 days, which I wrote about in a previous blog. The kids thought we visited way too many museums, but we all learned a lot over the trip.

7) Started Working for the City of Houston
This year I took a job with the City of Houston in the contracts division of the City Attorney's Office and thus far, it has been a good journey with great people.

8) Made it to my Family Reunion in Mississippi and Visited the Place Where Emmett Till Lost His Life
After already enduring a 5,000+ mile road trip over the summer, the kids and I were able to make it to the family reunion in Starkville, Mississippi during Labor Day weekend. We had a good time with our family and were able to squeeze another trip into history when we drove to Money, Mississippi to see where Emmett Till was taken from this world.

9) Stomped for Beto and Voter Turnout
I've been a big fan of Beto, ever since we met during our 2018 campaigns. This year I spent several Sundays going to churches on behalf of his campaign and giving information about voting in the 2022 election.

10) Joined Leadership Houston
Last but not least, I was accepted to Leadership Houston this year and have been enjoying getting to know Houston and my classmates better over the last few months. I might be biased, but I definitely think that our class, Class 41, is the best class ever!

How did 2022 treat you? Feel free to let me know in a comment.
